The second piece to be shared from the pastel portfolio is titled “Little Boy Blue”. It depicts a kid playing outside (a rare thing to see today) with his trumpet. This is something I’d see my brother doing often. While the other kids were throwing a ball around and racing each other, he was practicing – almost like Bleek in Mo’ Better Blues except he was outside.

This was just a moment that I remember from my childhood but I know it’s an experience that many of us growing up back then can relate to. As we celebrate Black Music Month, for everyone who picked up an instrument in elementary school, this piece is for you. Whether you still play or passed down the tradition to your children the music is always in us.
